SunRail, Central Florida’s commuter rail project, continues chugging along toward opening day in the spring of 2014. Phase I covers some 32 miles through Central Florida. One of the whistle stops is the City of Winter Park, where local leaders held a groundbreaking recently for a new train station the city is constructing. Noranne Downs, District Five Secretary for the Florida Department of Transportation, also took part in the event February 13. The city’s facility will replace the old Amtrak station, and will compliment SunRail service. The building style will be similar to that of when Winter Park was established in 1882, when rail was a main form of travel. The grand opening is expect by this winter.
