National Work Zone Awareness Week

National Work Zone Awareness Week 2013With hazards and increased risk of injury or fatality in roadway work zones, FDOT recognized April 15 – 19 as part of National Work Zone Safety Awareness Week.  A display of construction barrels and cones was placed on the Old Capitol steps, encouraging motorists to follow simple steps to drive down fatalities.  Stay alert, don’t tailgate, don’t speed, don’t change lanes in the work zone, minimize distractions, and expect the unexpected.  Information was distributed and a proclamation from Governor Rick Scott was highlighted.

Lora Hollingsworth, FDOT Chief Safety Engineer, Grier Kirkpatrick, American Traffic Safety Services Foundation Board Member, and Bob Burleson, President of the Florida Transportation Builders Association, represented work zone partners.
