FDOT teamed up with Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) National to sponsor its annual conference held in Orlando. In 2012, Florida updated its Strategic Highway Safety Plan to include an emphasis area for at risk road users to ensure strategic measures are being made by all traffic safety partners to reduce the fatalities and injuries of teens. (The goal of the State Strategic Highway Safety Plan is to reduce fatalities to zero, matched with SADD’s goals.) The conference drew over 500 students and leaders from around the country, where they discussed teen safety issues and strategies to save lives.
Secretary Prasad was presented with the Outstanding Contribution Award from SADD for his focus on teen driving safety. Danielle King received the award on his behalf, as the Teen Programs Manager for the FDOT Safety Office.
