Turnpike Staff Build More than Roads

There were plenty of smiles, along with plenty of mud to go around as nearly 30 staff members from Florida’s Turnpike spent a soggy Saturday volunteering with Habitat for Humanity.

The Turnpike crew that helped put the finishing touches on a home building project in Miramar, FL was comprised of employees from nearly every functional area of the organization.

Turnpike Executive Director Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti, who was among the volunteers, said that a morning thunderstorm did not dampen the spirit of the team as it went about installing ten full pallets of sod, as well as tending to other landscaping and site cleanup chores.

Despite the challenging conditions and heavy workload, the volunteers never complained nor hesitated.  They reported that the effort was not only fun, but extremely rewarding, especially seeing the expression on the faces of the future homeowners.
