FDOT and the Florida Motorcycle Coalition worked the Ridesmart Florida event at Biketoberfest in Daytona. Motorcycle safety materials were distributed and rider surveys were taken to help with motorcycle safety efforts. Riders were encouraged to ride responsibly by wearing bright, visible colors and not to drink and ride. FDOT also placed signs up in the area reminding other drivers to watch for motorcycles.
Biketoberfest has been a long-standing tradition in Daytona with motorcyclists attending from across the country. Biketoberfest is a four-day motorcycle event that draws approximately 100,000 people annually, but every year it also brings its share of motorcycle collisions. By promoting safe habits for both motorcyclists and drivers, FDOT plans to drive down fatalities associated with motorcycles.
