When Jody Clifton started his career, it was with the Florida State Road Department in 1958. This was shortly after the Federal Aid Highway Act of 1956 authorized construction of I-4, I-95, and I-75. The transportation industry was booming. In 1969, the State Road Department became the Florida Department of Transportation.
In the early days of his career, Jody served as a construction inspector on many projects including the original construction of I-4. For at least the past 35 years, he has been our chief earthwork expert for District Five.
In Jody’s first performance evaluation, his supervisor wrote, “This employee is very dependable and most observant.” In 1959, his first supervisor saw the work ethic that Jody Clifton would display for the next 55 years, and described it in one sentence! Everyone who knows Jody would agree this statement sums up his current performance today. After 55 years, his earthwork construction knowledge and his respect in the industry is unmatched. Jody’s experience and dedication is invaluable to the history and the future of the state transportation system.
