On May 1, SunRail got out of the gates and onto the tracks with the start of free service for the first 12 days of operation. The free service days were extremely busy and passenger loads exceeded expectations, with nearly 135,000 total boardings (estimated) during those first 12 days. Revenue service, which started May 19, seems to be faring well during the early stages with room for growth. Commuters are finding SunRail a convenient and reasonably priced option for getting to and from the job, and it appears that a number of leisure riders are using SunRail during the off-peak hours, even after the conclusion of free service. The SunRail web site has been a busy place as well, with more than one million views since mid-February.
