Billy Hattaway, District One Secretary and Carmen Monroy, Southwest Area Office Director along with other department staff attended LeeTran Headquarters Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Wednesday, March 11 at 3401 Metro Parkway in Fort Myers. The event was attended by Lee County Board of County Commissioners, City of Fort Myers Mayor and other dignitaries along with citizens from the community.
The opening of the new LeeTran Headquarters facility was planned to accommodate Lee County’s anticipated growth through 2030. It was designed to LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver standards, and was engineered to withstand Category 5 hurricane wind speeds. It incorporates a host of additional safety features that were not present in its previous facility, including a state-of-the-art video surveillance system. The department partnered with LeeTran to bring a regional training program to the facility which includes specialized bus and heavy equipment training. LeeTran is now positioned to participate in the strategic growth of Lee County while protecting the quality of life that Southwest Floridians value. This was made possible with funding by Federal Transit Administration grants ($32.1 million), Florida Department of Transportation grants ($3.63 million), a State Infrastructure Bank loan ($3.54 million), and funds from Lee County ($3.63 million). With continued partnership with our local agencies the department was able to assist in making this 23+acre facility become a reality.
