Officially formed by the Legislature on June 2, 1915, the Florida State Road Department began operation on October 8, 1915, later to be renamed the Florida Department of Transportation in 1969. It was only fitting that on Thursday, October 8, FDOT employees across District One stopped to celebrate those who paved the way for our 100 years of success.
Operations, materials, and maintenance personnel came together to celebrate with fun and of course a birthday cake. The biggest celebration took place in District One Headquarters where the Public Information Office helped plan the event. The Employee Benefit Fund Committee did an outstanding job implementing the festivities with displays, photographs, a video and refreshments. The highlight of the refreshments was the amazing cake decorated with all the past and current logos.
Randy Prescott, Director of Transportation Operations and Carol Finn, District Transportation Support Manager gave a Power Point presentation highlighting District One accomplishments over the past 100 years. Their presentation concluded with what the future may hold for transportation in Florida, and new projects planned for the district.
The celebration concluded with employees forming the number 100 on the front lawn of district headquarters.
