On June 13, 2019, Governor Ron DeSantis, alongside Florida Department of Transportation Secretary Kevin J. Thibault, elected officials and Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise staff, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the SunTrax test facility. The event marked the completion of Phase One of SunTrax, America’s newest autonomous vehicle test track. The Governor then signed House Bill 311 which legalizes the use of vehicles equipped with automated systems designed specifically for use without a human driver on board. The Governor and invited guests then viewed demonstrations of technology currently being tested at SunTrax, like Starsky’s autonomous semi-truck.
