Governor Scott signed a proclamation designating Friday, February 5, 2016, as Crossing Guard Appreciation Day. Throughout the state, crossing guard programs and agencies held events to show appreciation to their guards.
On February 17, Alert Today Florida hosted its second annual “Champions Ride for Bicycle Safety.” Approximately 40 avid cyclists, who also happen to be very well known celebrities, came out to ride and show their support for the cause.
The Florida Scenic Highways Program is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. The Town of Penney Farms located recently celebrated its 90th anniversary in part by conducting their 2nd Annual Penney Farms Historic 5K Run. The race course included the tree-lined residential streets of the J.C. Penney Memorial Scenic Highway.
On October 7 this year, 4,695 schools across the nation participated in Walk to School Day. This year, 428 schools were holding walking events and pedestrian education campaigns across Florida.
The Florida Department of Transportation and Alert Today Florida teamed up with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to help promote pedestrian and bicycle safety across the greater Tampa Bay area.

A key piece in the U.S. 92 corridor pedestrian improvements was installed in mid-August. The pedestrian bridge will allow safe access across the highway, part of the Daytona Beach gateway.
FDOT’s Alert Today Alive Tomorrow campaign was back in Daytona during the 4th of July holiday weekend. This campaign is part of the statewide and year-round effort to raise awareness of the role we all play in keeping pedestrians and bicyclists safe on our roadways.
District Seven and the City of Tampa are implementing pedestrian safety improvements on East Hillsborough Avenue. The improvements will incorporate seven new pedestrian crossings at five locations along the corridor between Nebraska Avenue and 50th Street.
On Monday, June 22, 2015, the Florida Department of Transportation hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the sidewalk improvement project along SR 823/NW 57 Avenue from NW 202 Street/Honey Hill Drive to Florida’s Turnpike ramps.
It all started with a simple request from the Courtney Campbell Causeway Scenic Highway Group to District Seven. The group had an idea for a bicycle and pedestrian trail that would span across Tampa Bay.
