September 28 was a big day for SunRail as the Federal Transit Administration announced the signing of a federal grant agreement to extend SunRail commuter rail service 17.2 miles from southern Orlando to Osceola County.
SunRail trains were abuzz with activities as FDOT, local elected officials and celebrity guests joined with passengers on-board trains for a day-long celebration marking SunRail’s First Anniversary of service.
On May 1, SunRail got out of the gates and onto the tracks with the start of free service for the first 12 days of operation.
SunRail, Central Florida’s commuter rail project, continues chugging along toward opening day in the spring of 2014. Phase I covers some 32 miles through Central Florida.
