Set within the vibrant and historical Calle Ocho neighborhood, this Ciclovía event was created to inspire a community movement to get outside, interact with the street, and get to know the area in a whole new way.
FDOT, Orlando, and Bike/Walk Central Florida hosted Orlando’s first Ciclovia event. Ciclovia means “cycleway” and has been a long-standing tradition in South America, where miles of roads are closed every Sunday.
With 152 schools participating in this year’s event, Florida placed third in the nation in the number of schools celebrating Bike to School Day.
As soon as helmets were falling out of the back of the van, it seemed as if the children recognized the cue and lined up to receive a personally fitted bicycle helmet. 79 participants were fit with helmets just their size.
